Death of the Pope.
I was listening to the AM news station on Saturday and was saddened to hear about the death of Pope John Paul.
The
classical music station had already suspended its pledge drive earlier in the day out of respect for the failing Pope and to provide the "healing power of music."
I am currently listening to a rebroadcast of the
2004 Reconciliation concert, held at the Vatican. The
Pittsburgh Symphony is playing
Mahler's Resurrection Symphony now as I type these notes.
This is a special program. It was specifically chosen as a result of the Pope's death yesterday as a tribute to the life of the Pope.
The Pittsburgh Symphony was the first American orchestra to play at the Vatican. There is a connection between the Pope and the current Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony.
